Close to 200 temporary summer staff at HB Grandi
This summer 192 temporary staff have been taken on by HB Grandi and its subsidiaries in Reykjavík, Akranes and Vopnafjördur. Most of them are students who fill the gaps left by permanent staff taking summer holidays. The majority of them are women and around 30 are coming to work for the company for the first time.
According to Kristín Helga Waage Knútsdóttir of HB Grandi’s human resource department, the 73 have been taken on to cover summer holidays at HB Grandi’s four production locations and its subsidiaries in Akranes.
With the summer mackerel and herring seasons in progress, 64 people have been employed at the pelagic factory in Vopnafjördur, including ten new recruits.
The majority if the 44 people taken on at the HB Grandi factory in Akranes are women and eleven of them are new recruits. 17 students are filling temporary positions at Vignir G. Jónsson and have all worked there before. There are six temporary staff at the drying factory and another six at Nordanfiskur ehf, with three new recruits at each location.
The largest production facility, the Nordurgardur factory in Reykjavík, has 52 temporary summer staff with an equal split between men and women, including five who have not worked there before. In addition, three temporary staff have been taken on at the company’s offices in Reykjavík for the summer.
