Good trip for Höfrungur III

Freezer trawler Höfrungur III docked in Reykjavík this morning after a successful trip. According to skipper Arnar H Ævarsson, fishing has been good and they have been lucky with weather, considering there have been two heavy autumn storms that have made life difficult for fishermen in the last couple of weeks.

‘We started the trip in the Skerja Deeps where we searched for deep redfish with limited success. We searched the grounds further west, all the way out to the area known as the Darkness, but the deep redfish were still scarce. But we had silver smelt in some places and there is plenty of golden redfish. The last two days in the south west were spent on the Mountains and we caught saithe
with some golden redfish,’ he said, adding that the saithe were a good size for processing.

Down from the mountains and north to the Hampiðjan Square

‘We had some Greenland halibut there, and there’s golden redfish to be had everywhere from the Hampiðjan Square all the way to the Víkuráll Gully and northwards along the bank to the Hali grounds. Then we took the opportunity with a storm forecast 12th and 13th of October to slip in to Reykjavík for a half-landing. From there we went straight back to the Hali region and dropped straight into good fishing for cod, saithe and golden redfish. We had five days there and then before we went back southwards and finished with two days on the Mountains with some decent fishing for saithe. I reckon that we have a 700 tonne green weight of fish for this trip. It is a very mixed trip and everything has worked out well. There’s a great crew here, all hard-working, positive guys, and that’s one of the keys to success,’ Arnar H Ævarsson said.

Höfrungur III docked early this morning and this is a short stopover, as the next trip starts tonight.
