HB Grandi speaks on the environmental day of Business Iceland 2017
Svavar Svavarsson, Managing Director of Business Development at HB Grandi gave a speech at the environmental day held by Business Iceland which was held this year on climate change. Svavar spoke about „Clean Value Chain in Fisheries“, an environmental management project HB Grandi has been developing with the goal of minimizing the environmental impact of the company. Svavar talked about HB Grandi‘s integration history since 1985, and the drastic decrease in vessels despite tripling the fishing quota. The renewal of HB Grandi‘s fishing fleet is ongoing with more efficient and fuel-efficient vessels.
Important factors such as healthier fish stocks, progress in fishing and fisheries planning in recent decades have led to a 33% reduction in oil consumption in the Icelandic fleet. Svavar emphasized that the government’s targeted policy on fisheries issues and continued growth and innovation in the industry are the most important factors to ensure that Iceland’s climate goals are met.
