The premier event of its kind
‘The Brussels European Seafood Exposition is as usual maintaining its reputation as the premier event of its kind anywhere in the world today. Here we see in one place everyone with a real part to play in this business. Marine resources are sadly limited and so it’s more important to maintain those trusted business relationships that have been developed over the years than to put every effort into finding new ones,’ said HB Grandi’s marketing manager Svavar Svavarsson as he was on the company’s stand in Brussels along with twenty of the HB Grandi staff.
This is the company’s ninth time at Brussels in as many years promoting its own brand products, and Svavar Svavarsson has been at the head of the team every time.
‘As far as I can see, attendance is much the same as last year, which is excellent. In broad terms, things don’t appear to have changed a great deal since last year, although representatives of companies from Eastern Europe are certainly more noticeable than before,’ he said.
As we have already reported, HB Grandi and Valka signed a contract at the exhibition for a X ray quided cutting machine for pinbone removal and portioning for cod fillets at the company’s factory in Akranes. This is the first of its kind ever and was on display at the exhibition. HB Grandi was closely involved with Valka in the development of the prototype which has been running at the Nordurgardur factory since September. This is used to remove bones from redfish fillets as well as to automatically portion loins.
According to Svavar Svavarsson, customers have been watching this development carefully.
‘Any investment in new technology that provides improved yields and development attracts attention. This also highlights the emphasis that HB Grandi places on meeting the market’s requirements and the needs of our customers. This certainly makes our job in the marketing division easier,’ Svavar Svavarsson said.
